This weekend we took advantage of the windswept trees at Plas Tan y Bwlch by turning them into wood chip for use in our own boiler. If a tree falls to the ground, it will stay there and slowly decompose, a process of which includes releasing carbon into the atmosphere. It is a complete waste of energy to allow this to happen as no more carbon is generated from the burning of the wood.
How much energy was saved?
We estimate the total energy is 56 Megawatt Hours after the energy required to dry the wood (3.5 Megawatt Hours) is deducted.
That equates to 33 Barrels / 5246 litres of Crude Oil, but without the environmental damage.
